We all knew the day would come
After a 20-hour session, Space Ibiza closed its doors on Monday for the final time. Thousands flocked to the club for one last dance inside.
Whispers flew about the island well before Space Ibiza announced they would be leaving its Playa Den Bossa venue at the end of the summer. Space’s lease is up and after 27 years, owner Pepe Rosello feels it’s time to move on, the club will now be in the hands of Matutes, owner of the Ushuaia group.
Space Ibiza has meant so much to so many. Sunkissed open-air raving from 8am, with aeroplane engines roaring above, put the club on the map. A place where countless tunes became dancefloor hits, Space is the most awarded club in the world.
Space’s Closing Fiesta on Sunday, October 2 concluded the season with 100+ acts getting their last slot behind the decks. Including longtime Space legends and residents, Carl Cox, Paul Reynolds, Sasha, Josh Wink, and Carl Craig, who all put the crowd through their paces.
“Ibiza will never be the same and you know it,” Carl Cox foretold during his first set of the night. Shortly after 12pm, following six hours of Carl and Nic Fanciulli swapping deck duties in the discoteca, the last track spun round. Thousands reluctantly walked away having had the best time inside, hearing classics that anywhere else would have felt stale, and knowing that Space was sent off in true style.
