Five live performances you need to see
It’s July in Ibiza, beaches and roads are busy and the parties are all fully underway. Most importantly the weather is really heating up and so are the line-ups. Hundreds of musical guests are to be welcomed with open arms, and some will be breaking the DJ set mould in Ibiza with their collection of musical hardware to drop in with a live set. July has a few tricks up its sleeve on the live show front, these are five of our hottest picks.
6TH JULY – IBIZA ROCKS BIRTHDAY @ IBIZA ROCKS
Ibiza Rocks celebrate 11 years on the White Isle with two birthday parties, and if last year’s birthday bash ft. The Libertines is anything to go by, this one will be another massive celebration of live music in Ibiza. First and foremost, recently reunited electronic band LCD Soundsystem hit Ibiza Rocks Hotel. Major Lazer conclude birthday proceedings the following week.
14TH JULY – AFTERLIFE @ SPACE
Afterlife are going for it with live sets every week from amazing artists, but out of all of those, Stephan Bodzin is our number one choice (sorry Recondite). Self-described as a ‘melody man’, Stephan went from being a classically trained musician, making music for theatres to creating techno music with just as much drama. See you on the Sunset Terrace.
19TH JULY – MOSIAC @ PACHA
London sounds call our attention to Maceo Plex’s residency at Pacha. Leading the way in the main room will be Paranoid London and their machines. Their live sets are driven by raw and squelching 303 bass lines on the fly, and they will bring the spirit of authentic and improvised acid house to the Pacha dance floor.
20TH JULY – HYTE @ AMNESIA
HYTE plays host to Canadian recording artist Caribou. A surprising booking as Caribou doesn’t tend to play on the White Isle, but he has hoards of fans here including Sven Väth, so the announcement has been hugely well-received. Imagine if a singalong to ‘Can’t Do Without You’ happens – tears may actually flood out the terrace.
27TH JULY – PARADISE @ DC-10
UK bass man Mr. G will be bringing his old skool analogue kit to Jamie Jones’ Paradise party. Mr. G truly carries the spirit of the underground and has been forming his live sets for over half a decade, a true master you have to experience. His only listed date on the island is set to bring music with drive and soul to tantalise attendees.
