Panasonic’s updated 1200 turntable has been in the pipeline since last year, following a petition for a relaunch. Staggeringly upping the hype this week, Technics released images of the deck. It’s a true shiny sight to behold.

Manufacturers who created the DJ world’s most essential piece of kit back in 1972 plan to release the new version later this year. The Grand Class SL-1200GAE is limited to 1200 units, while there will also be a non-limited SL-Grand Class 1200G.

They’re expected to set you back a mere $4,000 according to reports. The majority of us will likely just stick to our secondhand mk2’s off eBay.

Originally ceasing production in 2010, the recent resurgence of buying and using vinyl encouraged Technics to develop the new line. During the week before Christmas, HMV reported selling one turntable a minute, demonstrating the demand of listening to the format.
